Orioles' Hays Hits Second-Deck Homer in Victory

Hays Completes Cycle, Becomes Sixth Oriole to Achieve Feat

Orioles 4, Nationals 0

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Austin Hays belted a majestic home run into the second deck at Nationals Park on Tuesday night, capping off a remarkable performance in which he became just the sixth player in Orioles history to hit for the cycle.

Hays' cycle-clinching homer came in the top of the seventh inning off Nationals reliever Sam Clay. The towering shot landed deep in the left-field seats, giving the Orioles a 4-0 lead.

Earlier in the game, Hays had singled in the first inning, doubled in the third, and tripled in the fifth. He is the first Oriole to hit for the cycle since Adam Jones in 2012.

"It's an unbelievable feeling," Hays said after the game. "I've always dreamed of hitting for the cycle, and to do it in a game like this is just incredible."

Hays' performance helped the Orioles snap a three-game losing streak and improve to 10-16 on the season. The Nationals, meanwhile, fell to 11-15.

The game was delayed in the bottom of the seventh inning due to rain, and it was eventually called in the top of the eighth. The Orioles' victory was their first shutout of the season.
