The Los Angeles Rams and Dallas Cowboys made their 2023 preseason debut on Saturday, August 12th. The Rams came away with a 29-22 victory, but both teams showed promising signs for the upcoming season.
Cowboys Offense Struggles
The Cowboys' offense struggled to get going in the first half, with quarterback Dak Prescott completing just 6-of-12 passes for 58 yards. The running game also struggled, with Ezekiel Elliott averaging just 2.8 yards per carry. However, the Cowboys did show some signs of life in the second half, with Prescott leading a touchdown drive and Elliott breaking loose for a 25-yard run.
Rams Offense Impresses
The Rams' offense, on the other hand, looked impressive throughout the game. Quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 12-of-18 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown, and running back Cam Akers rushed for 61 yards on 12 carries. The Rams' offense also showed its versatility, with Stafford spreading the ball around to eight different receivers.
Defensive Standouts
Both teams had some standout defensive performances. For the Cowboys, cornerback Trevon Diggs had two interceptions, including one that he returned for a touchdown. For the Rams, linebacker Bobby Wagner had eight tackles and a sack.
Special Teams Play
The Rams also had a strong game on special teams. Kicker Matt Gay made all three of his field goal attempts, including a 52-yarder, and punter Riley Dixon averaged 46.3 yards per punt.
