Defending champions Argentina started their Copa America campaign with a 2-0 victory over Canada in Atlanta on Thursday

Goals from Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez gave the Argentines a comfortable win in the opening match of the tournament. Argentina dominated possession and created the better chances throughout the match. They took the lead in the 26th minute when Alvarez finished off a fine move involving Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul.

Canada had a few chances to equalize, but they were unable to find a way past the experienced Argentine defense. Argentina doubled their lead in the second half when Martinez converted a penalty after Messi was fouled in the area.
